HD teaser trailer for Netflix’s live-action DEATH NOTE looks like they nailed it

Today, I was able to catch a peek at the newly released HD teaser trailer for the US live-action DEATH NOTE adaptation of the wildly popular anime and manga series. It’s been given a release date of August 26 on Netflix. In my opinion, I’m hoping this gets a big screen release because if it’s going to be made available only for streaming on the small screen, that’s going to bite fans really hard. The story deserves a larger than life release and I’m not sure watching it on my 12.7 inch iPad Pro is going to do the film the justice it deserves. However, despite that guttural impression, I was impressed with what I saw so far. I don’t know if it’s enough footage to quell the nay-sayers just yet; only a full-length trailer could do that. We’ll just have to see.

I’ve been cautiously optimistic since news of a US live-action of Death Note was first announced. But I have to say that judging by what is here in the teaser, I believe the director and production team got the tone of the source material right. They certainly got right the look of the Death Note itself. Also in the teaser, you get to see a half-lit appearance of the Shinigami, Ryuk.

Check it out and please drop me a comment and let me know what you think. Are you looking forward to Hollywood’s take on this classic?
