Not sure that this will disclose my age or not, but I remember wasting many afternoons, and some evenings, meeting my friends at the local gaming store to play Magic: The Gathering. For those that don’t know about the game (unless you were born under a rock), it was a highly addictive collectible card game released by Wizards of the Coast somewhere during the early to mid 1990’s. Thanks to the high collectibility of the cards used in the game, as well as the numbers needed to build that nearly “undefeated, tournament-ready deck” it became the crack to a whole generation of youths, the game became a major cash cow for WofC. One of the games main draw, especially for me, was the amazing artwork on each card and it made the cards that much more collectible in their own right.
Due to its huge popularity worldwide, it’s only logical that a book collecting all the gorgeous artwork in one volume and it has been billed as a “one of a kind” volume. On December 7, 2016 of this week, the San Francisco-based #anime and manga distribution and licensing firm (and largest in the world), VIZ Media issued a press release about the new artbook:
Set to debut on January 5th, 2016, THE ART OF MAGIC: THE GATHERING—ZENDIKAR is a hefty 240-page book that features full color illustrations from some of Magic’s best artists, such as Aleksi Briclot and Adam Paquette, as well as in-depth lore written by bestselling author James Wyatt. THE ART OF MAGIC: THE GATHERING—ZENDIKAR will be available in print from Viz Media’s Perfect Square imprint and will carry an MSRP of $39.99 U.S. / $45.99 CAN.
